LUCKEY FAMILY, WILLIAM C. SPENCER, 1823- INVENTORY AND DESCRIPTION (Entered into the Library of Congress National Union Catalog of Manuscripts - NUCMC - under OCLC # 793537871) Papers, 1861-1891. William C. Spencer crossed the Plains to Oregon in 1847. In 1848 he took a Donation Land Claim near Springfield. He moved to Santa Clara County, California in 1857 and returned to Oregon in 1887. The collection consists of thirteen lengthy letters, 1867-1883, written by Spencer to his brother, S. H. Spencer, in Eugene. The letters are concerned with agricultural problems and prices, illnesses and death, and other family news. One letter discusses art and artists in California. Also included are miscellaneous legal documents from the Luckey family, Spencer's relations by marriage. |
