FRED G. STICKELS COLLECTION Documents and correspondence, 1918-1927; 1967-1971 SCOPE & CONTENT NOTE By Steve Eccles and Cheryl Roffe Fred G. Stickels served as Lane County, Oregon, Sheriff from 1919 through 1924. This small collection of correspondence and associated items partially documents his experience in this position, and provides glimpses into the law enforcement challenges and criminal activity of that period of time. Steve Eccles has provided a description of each letter contained in the original Stickels record box; the letters are described in the order in which they appeared in the records. They have now been reorganized by date in file folders, as listed below. Empty Original Stickels record box is stored on Area C, Section 13, Shelf 5. A University of Oregon graduate, Stickels married Florence Thrall in 1914 and began his career as a Lane County deputy clerk. He served as the Eugene City Treasurer from 1915-1918, then as County Sheriff from 1919 to 1924, After that, he became a manager and then president at Security Savings and Loan Association; a manager at Title Abstract Company from 1933-1940, and among other things, was a school board member and the president of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce in 1941-1942.
