YOUNG, CALVIN M. 1871-1957 INVENTORY AND DESCRIPTION (Entered in the Library of Congress National Union Catalog of Manuscripts - NUCMC - as OCLC # 809538994.) Papers, 1926-1950. "Cal Young was a son of Lane County Pioneers Charles Walker Young and Mollie Gillespie Young. He was a University of Oregon football coach, a theater operator in Eugene, a butcher, and active in Lane County Politics, serving for a time as a commissioner. He had a great interest in Lane County's pioneer heritage, and he participated in every Oregon Trail Pageant from 1926 to 1950. Young was also a prime mover in the establishment of the Lane County Museum and served as its first curator. The papers consist of correspondence relating to the presentation of the Oregon Trail Pageants, 1926-1950; the development of a pioneer musuem; and miscellaneous letters relative to pioneers and historical events. |
