HARBAUGH, " COLONEL" JASPER JAMES, 1846-1926 Records, 1914-1926 Jasper James Harbaugh had a varied career, based in the Midwest until he settled permanently in Eugene in 1909. Here he served as Eugene Constable, truant officer for School District 4 and finally Juvenile Officer, an elected position, beginning in 1919. A colorful character, he died in 1926 at age 80. INVENTORY, biographical information and scrapbook. Scrapbook contains newspaper clippings and articles relating to when Harbaugh was County Juvenile Officer. Of particular interest is a long newspaper article which introduces the Ku Klux Klan to the Eugene community, written by Eugene Klan No. 3 secretary Chester Noland. The scrapbook also contains some journal entries and financial records, and photographs of J.J. "Colonel" Harbaugh. L2000.002.001 |
