CENTRAL LANE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS, 1939- Records, 1939-1975. The local League of Women Voters was organized in Eugene in 1939 as a non-sectarian, non-partisan organization with "a basic program of watching the functioning of local, state, and national government and carrying reliable information about it beyond its own membership to the general public." The Central Lane League developed positions on welfare issues, i.e., child welfare, public health, women in industry, and economic welfare. Education, minority rights, foreign policy, the United Nations, and individual liberties were also of concern. Local issues such as air pollution, ecological and other environmental issues were studied in some detail. Included are board minutes, state board minutes, annual reports, financial records, and documents used as background material. All of the Springfield League files are incorporated into the papers. |
